The story of Château de Bonhoste begins around 1895, when the BUSSIERE family arrived at the “Bonhoste” area at the village Saint-Jean de Blaignac. There they meet the CHABERT family that makes wine in that area at the and of the XVII’th century.
The goal of the two families was to increase the size of the houses through hard labour, determination and dedication.
Today Colette and Bernard and now their children Sylvaine and Yannick continue their search to a continue improvement of their property, so they have built a solid reputation among their peers and in the wine world, which surely will come in handy in the future.
The 44 hectares of Château de Bonhoste extends over the hills that are part of the Dordogne valley, 45 km from the city of Bordeaux and 6 km of excellent wine area of Saint-Emilion.
The clay / limestone soils support the most outstanding Bordeaux grapes, with 70% devoted to Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc for the reds and white, 55% Semillon, 40% Sauvignon and 5% Muscadelle.
Château de Bonhoste uses the traditional wine-growing in his vineyard, and use «la lutte raisonée", using chemicals only if clearly needed. they prefer to focus on the selection and management of the vines in order to achieve the best quality in their wines and are of the opinion that this gives the wines authenticity and a better expression of the soil on which the vines are grown.
Good wine storage is a critical factor in the aging of wine.
Their beautiful basement was dug nearly 200 years ago. The first objective was the extraction of stone to build houses in Bordeaux. First, this area of 1200 m2, was used to cultivate mushroom "Mushrooms de Paris".
Since 1986 we use the cellar for aging wine in barrels and bottles, as it offers optimal storage conditions. The temperature is almost stable throughout the year (9-10 ° C in winter, 12-13 ° C in summer), and the humidity is excellent: 100%.
